Umi Sake Coming to McHenry Row
The former Red Parrot and House of Asia at McHenry Row will now become Umi Sake. A new sign has been put up and a liquor license transfer has been submitted.
Umi Sake also has a restaurant in Cockeysville with a a menu that includes Asian appetizers, entrées, noodle and rice dishes, and extensive sushi and sashimi options, as well as drinks and desserts. Umi Sake currently has a 4-star rating on Yelp.
Mediterranean Coming to Federal Hill
Another recently-vacant restaurant space will be filled as the former Banjara/The Hill/Joey B’s now has a sign in the window reading “Coming Soon, Mediterranean Cuisine.”
The last restaurant in the space, Joey B’s, closed in December 2013.
Transfer at Cockey’s
A liquor license transfer has been submitted for the former Cockey’s Restaurant at 39 S. Arlington St. in Hollins Market. The applicant, James Collins, has also applied for live entertainment, off-premise catering, and outdoor table service.
Bob and Robert Cockey relocated Cockey’s to Upper Fells Point and will soon be opening another location in Butchers Hill at 32 N. Chester St.
Locust Point Bar to Open Soon
In Fall 2013, the owners of Salt in Butchers Hill announced they would be taking over 1157 Haubert St., the former home of Down the Hatch, Witty’s and The House.
More information was revealed about this new bar in a recent interview with the Baltimore Sun. From the article:
There’s one thing Jason Ambrose especially wants you to know about 1157 Bar and Kitchen, his long-awaited tavern project on tiny Haubert Street in Locust Point.
“It’s fairly small,” Ambrose said. “I feel I need to say that as much as possible. I want it to feel like a warm, neighborhood bar. We want to keep things as fun as possible.”
1157 Bar and Kitchen will open in early December, just over a year since Ambrose purchased the rowhouse property. Ambrose said the menu at 1157 will consist mostly of small plates and sandwiches, along with a few entrees
Langermann’s on Light Available for Lease
Mark Lasker, owner of the property at 1542 Light St. (former home of Langermann’s on Light, which closed in July) and a current owner of Langermann’s in Canton, told SouthBMore.com that he is looking to lease the space to a new restaurant team and those interested can contact him at Mark@Langermanns.com.
COR Health Institute Expansion
COR Health Institute, a community fitness center located at 904 Washington Blvd. in Pigtown that focuses on programs for kids as well as adults, is expanding into an adjacent 4,000 sq. ft. building that is currently vacant at 906 Washington Blvd.

Vacant retail spaces continue to get filled on Pigtown Main Street, as eight new businesses have opened in the last two years.
